Thermocouple Wire and Connector Color Codes

Thermocouple wire, extension wire (compensating cable) and connectors are often but not always color-coded to indicate both the thermocouple type and the polarity of the thermoelectric voltage that will be or is being developed. Thermocouples must have matched calibration extension wire at the measurement end to account for temperature differences between the tip or hot junction and the measuring point which may be either the cold junction or an intermediate junction.
