Featured Product of The Month

This month we feature a radically new thermal imager, the ThermoView™ Model Ti30 from Raytek Corporation. Not only does it look different but also it has a host of features that break new ground in the industry. The combination is unprecedented! Not the least of these features is its price. Selling in the USA at an introductory price of $9950, this is a new record for a near real-time thermal imager, even without all the extra bells, and whistles.

Raytek's New High Performance Ti30 Thermal Imager That Includes:

•Insider™ Analysis & Reporting Software,
•Temperature Measuring Capability of 0 to 250 °C and Degree F Equivalent-User friendly.,
•Laser Spot-marking, Easy to learn controls including automatic gain & level set,
•Two-day User Training From Snell Infrared
A User-Price of $9950
Optional NIST Calibration Certificate
Interactive User Manual on CD Docking Station/Charger, Hardshell Case USB Cable Rechargeable Battery Pack Soft Carry Case Multi-Language Thermography Training Presentation on CD-ROM Wrist Strap Quick Reference Card • Liquid Crystal Display

This is BIG - Raytek's Ti30!

Raytek has done it again! For the second time in 2003 they have broken new ground with an innovative, feature-laden product at an amazingly reasonable price. We have it on good authority that the price is not likely to go up in the near, or even the distant, future.

How would you like be a fly on the wall in the marketing department of their major competitors about now? The sales departments must be reeling, too, with all the free publicity this product has garnered in the last sixty days. Check the Raytek web site to see the deluge of kudos that are continuing to be rained on the heads of their staff. Congratulations to all involved; this is really big! Well done, again!

Now we wait with pencil poised to see how the competition to Raytek respond. They couldn't have anticipated the whole package. Perhaps at the big IR Exhibition in conjunction with the SPIE   ThermoSense Conference in April 2004 there will be a new set of benchmarks set. Can hardly wait!

We were very surprised at the breadth of inclusions with this new development even though we were aware that a new unit was on its way as early as January 2003. The Raytek approach to product development, marketing and new product release is about as complete, professional, polished, well-planned and thorough as many new automobile releases.

We leave you to your own priorities in learning more product details. The Raytek North America web site (see Alexa Table and comments below for some information about Raytek's web sites) has downloadable information galore, including introductory guides on thermal imaging practices, noncontact IR temperature measurement and a full users manual for the Ti30 in English, Spanish, Portuguese, German, French, Chinese and Japanese. We were too overwhelmed and plumb out of superlatives to surf any further ( ;>).

Meetings

International Scientific Workshop Radiation Measurements of the Bodies with Unknown Emissivity
November 3 - 6, 2003, Prof. Dariy Svet is involved in organizing the program, plus there is no registration fee.
The radiation measurement error achieved in modern metrology laboratories is 0.001 degree at 2000 K. However, when the temperature of nonblack bodies is measured by radiation methods, the errors are hundreds and thousands times more. This Workshop is dedicated to solutions of this problem in (infrared) radiation thermometry.

Next Month's Plan

The July issue is rushing at us like a freight train and we realize that we are just about to enter August as we put the June issue to bed. Part of the "problem" is that the rest of our business activities have increased to a very significant pace and we have less and less available time to review the web site updates on this page and in our eNewsletter. Something needs to get resynchronized. So, like many small publications, we are thinking at this point of combining the July and August issues. You, and we, will know by the end of August.

COMMENTS and Alexa™ SITE RANKINGS

Notice to PR and Ad staffs in equipment and service companies:

Now you can list your organization and your new product or services or meetings information at the Temperature Sensor Community web site, www.tempsensor.net. It is a self-service feature that anyone who joins as a member can access. Membership is free!

Listed below are the Alexa Web site rankings at the end of June and the preceeding two months. The rose color indicates that a site became less popular during the month, the green or aqua indicates more popular. The numbers provide a quantitative measure of the site popularity according to the Alexa ranking system. Needless to say, lower values mean more popular (like:"Yahoo is Number 1!").

Rose continued to dominate in June. The upward trend has vanished completely with a few notable exceptions, Indigo Systems and Pyromation. Theyare the only bright spots on the right side of the table. Our site, temperatures.com, continued to slide a bit in popularity, but we are uncertain how much is due to the overall trend and how much is due to the juggling of metatags that we have been doing. One other bright and one really gloomy observation. The Bright: Land Instruments has maintained its improved position, slipping only a little over the month, this after a really sharp drop in the Spring. The Gloomy: A group of web sites seem to be slipping into popularity oblivion; their pace of popularity loss is accelerating steadily over the past three months. Among these are: The ASNT site, Ircon, Inc., JMS-Southeast and Snell Infrared. Does this indicate anything more than a loss of web site visitors? We certainly hope not.

Sensors Magazine gained sustantially on the left side of the table, bucking the downward trend of most industrial sites. One remakable trend, however, is the accelerating growth in popularity of Global Spec! They grew nearly 10% when even the usually popular Omega Engineering slipped by more than 7%. This would seem to indicate that more and more people are searching the web for products, but that Temperature and related measurement & control products are not in the highest priority group.

Two new entries in white appear this month, FlirThermography and Raytek-North America. Both sites have been around for a while and at the urging of Flir's PR staff we have added their newest focused web site on Thermal Imaging (they do other things). We added Raytek-NA because we noted a similar situation in their web site cluster, too.

We plan to track both pairs of sites for the next two months and unless someone can convince us to add two new sites to replace them, we will discard the older listings for Flir and Raytek in August without replacing them. We are open to suggestions, but only untill late August when we gather the data.

According to The Netcraft June 2003 survey, they received responses from 40,936,076 web sites accessible on the Internet. In context of a popularity rating, a position of 1 or 2 million doesn't seem so bad. It means that such sites are among the top 5% of sites visited. However the rankings of sites of similar organizations competing for Web visitors and exposure does seem to indicate at least relative success in attracting visitors. How does that correlate with sales levels? We don't know yet and are very interested in any feedback from companies on our list.

Note, too, that the links indicated by the underlined web site entries in the table below take you to the corresponding Alexa report page for each site.

We have joined with Alexa as an Amazon Associate web site (Amazon owns Alexa) to offer an Alexa Toolbar for your IE web browser, if you wish to use Alexa on a regular basis yourself. From the above Alexa rankings you can see that our Web site, temperatures.com, consistently achieves a lower rank value(meaning it is more popular) than many vendors of temperature sensors, with the major exceptions of GlobalSpec and Omega Engineering, two gigantic web sites. If you check most of the search engines for "temperature sensors" or "temperature measurement" our site is usually number one, or close to it in non-advertiser rankings.

Our second site, http://www.tempsensor.net only available on the net since November 2002, has already reached an Alexa popularity ranking that places it between ASNT and Sensors Magazine. That means it has already passed all the major equipment and services vendors, just like our main site.

We know how to get high web traffic and popularity rankings and good directory placements! If your organization wants help in improving its Web marketing and popularity contact us at web@temperatures.com and ask for a free estimate.

If you only need more exposure of your organization's name and special capabilities, consider a banner ad on one of our websites. Our page view rates are high and long yet our prices are reasonable. We presently average more than 25,000 visitors per month!
